This position with the Duininck Utilities team offers the opportunity to install underground pipe systems, support trenching operations, and work with experienced utility crews to complete high-quality infrastructure projects.
The Role
- Align, position, and connect pipes for installation.
- Check slopes for conformance using levels or laser equipment.
- Seal pipe joints using appropriate lubricants, cements, or adhesives.
- Cover pipe with backfill materials including dirt, gravel, and stone.
- Cut pipes to specified lengths.
- Grade and level trench bases using hand tools and tamping equipment.
- Install and repair sanitary and storm sewer systems, structures, and pipe assemblies.
- Hand-locate existing pipes and utilities to avoid safety risks and damage.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, utility vehicles, and heavy equipment as required.
- Accurately complete time reporting and project documentation.
- Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe jobsite.
- Follow supervisor instructions and complete tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
Work Environment:
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch, and sit for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly work extended or overtime hours depending on project needs.
- Travel throughout Central & Western Minnesota, Northern Iowa, and the Eastern Dakotas.
What we Look For:
- Ability to use a wide variety of hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of trench safety regulations and safe excavation practices.
- Understanding of PPE requirements and safety standards.
- Awareness of MSHA/OSHA safety guidelines, confined space protocols, and utility construction best practices.
- Preferred certifications: Pipe Layer Certification, Competent Person, Confined Space Certification.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours during the construction season.
- Unwavering commitment to safe trenching operations.
